Tiny wonky houses......

May was a SUPER busy month, but I managed to slip in a fun class creating a canvas board mixed media artwork piece! Mixed media is not my 'forte", but I've made a few little 5x7 canvas boards that are in my ETSY SHOP HERE.  Most of my canvas art is fairly simple... I painted a piece of canvas and glued stuff on top using mod podge! This class, given by a new "friend" I've met here in Madras, was so much fun and I learned some new techniques.

I took the class mainly to meet other "crafty ladies" in Madras. I NEED some like-minded gals to craft with and it was my fortune to get this gal's name, who taught the class, from another gal in a shop I walked into a few months ago, asking about classes.

This class was the day before my nephew's wedding up in Portland, Oregon, and I wasn't going to go at first, as I had so much to do and was making him and his fiance some quilted pillows and a special wedding card (to be shown on a later post) and I felt really pressed for time! But I really really wanted to go, so I pushed myself and got the wedding gifts done by Friday and most of my stuff packed for our trip, just so I could go to the (all day) class. I'm so glad I did. I learned some really fun and new techniques (to me anyway) for mixed media (and met some new friends to boot!)

Here are a few techniques I learned:

Texturing (above)....... using stencil and texture paste and a little palet knife, you stencil designs onto the canvas which are raised... then paint over them with one or two colors. See the little dots in the sky?

More texturing (above)......... I painted, then textured, then painted on top, and then used a brown waxy paste to make it look antiqued. I also learned to use little tiny words which are kind of embedded into the paint and outlined them with black pen. I swiped silver "Inka Gold" metal gloss paste over the words with my finger. The words are Tim Holtz cut-out words that I mod podged on over the paint.

Drawing around things with a pen (above)...... I pasted all of the shapes on using scrapbook paper that I tore, and then mod podged it down. After it was dry, I drew around most everything with a Pigma Micron pen to make things "pop". (I love things that pop, don't you?)!!  I had so much fun drawing little dotted lines and scallops and swirly bobs.

Using "Zendangle"...... see the little dangly things I drew above? Zendangle is a new technique I've just head about, a form of Zentangle, but you draw hanging hearts, stars, circles and shapes from a rod (in this case, the piece of back and pink scrapbook paper). I love how this looks on the little pink and blue house.

This is an 8x10 canvas and I put "texture" on it first (which I've never done before), using old tissue sewing patterns. The texture made the board kind of bumpy and old looking. I adhered it using mod podge.  After it was dry, I then painted the lower 2/3 with green and the upper third with blue for the sky. Then I did the stenciling with a circle stencil and texture paste, and some swirls (which you can't really see), to give it some raised areas.

Then I did some stamping with black Staz On ink (see the right upper corner?) and in other areas using decorative music stamps and scrolls.  I tore scrapbook papers to build the little houses with their roofs and doors and chimneys. The gal who gave the class had all of the supplies so I had a blast picking through her scrapbook papers, paints, stencils and pastes, etc. I tried to be really spontaneous and not take too much time to pick out colors. All I knew was that I was making this for ME for my pink bedroom, wanted it mostly pink and green and whimsical!

Using Inka Gold Metal Gloss paint (silver)...... I had seen this used on YouTube alot.. and have always wanted to try it!

Wow is it gorgeous... I just smeared it on the edges of the canvas using my finger, and here and there on top of the texture, and over the little words at the bottom. I love it!  It comes in 18 colors and I want them all!

This butterfly was white chipboard and I found it in a pile of stuff and as an afterthought, stamped some black on it, but some lines and dots around the edge and smeared the Inka Gold silver paste on it. I really like how it looks fluttering above the house, although it IS kind of a giant compared to the house!

Can you see the greenery in between the houses and to the right? There is a little birdhouse on a post and on the right a tree with a blue window? Those were things I just tore out of a garden magazine I took with me to the class, and they were mod podged onto the canvas at some point. The pink door with asparagus I cut from a piece of scrapbook paper... who wouldn't want an asparagus door with a little green heart shaped doorknob?? Me!

I'm very happy with my little canvas and it's now hanging proudly on my pink bedroom wall. I do so love little quaint houses and some day want to make a quilt full of these whimsical and wonky houses.

Until next time.... stay cool! (Was 102 degrees here today).

My Etsy shop goodies for Valentine's Day.

It's only a month until Valentine's Day! Can you believe it? Time just marches on doesn't it?

I thought I'd show you some little delights I've made and have placed in my Etsy shop, in case you need a special little gift for a loved one. I'll put a link to each item.

Pink painted canvas board art - "be mine" "cutie pie" with lace, ribbon, buttons and a sweet little crocheted pink heart. This vintage image and other pretty papers have been decoupaged onto the canvas. I've added a fabric ruffle along the bottom. Size is 5x7 with a pink satin ribbon attached for hanging.
Go to this link to my Etsy shop to purchase this item.

Next, I have another sweet red canvas board art (below):

Oh my! "Sweetness" and "babycakes" vintage photo and pretty papers all decoupaged onto the red painted canvas board. I've added pretty lace trim, little satin bows, pearls and another pretty red crocheted heart (that I made myself). Hang this with the red satin ribbon attached at the top. Size is 5x7.
Go to this link to my Etsy shop to purchase this item.

A doily peeks out from behind the photo, and I've added a fabric ruffle with the words "love" in red. So sweet!
Tiny envelopes and tags anyone?? I have several sets of 8 teeny tiny envelopes with little teeny tiny tags and glossy "stamps" to slip inside the envelopes - how cute would these be to tuck inside little gifts?

Or make a card with the little envelopes on front - with a surprise tag inside!

Here is the link to my Etsy shop for this item - I have several sets and each one varies a little.

Pretty crochet table mats - measures 11-1/2 inches across in bright and happy colors. Perfect for your table centerpiece with a vase full of spring flowers, or to set a potted plant on.

Bright pink, gold, orange and a soft mint green, with a cream scalloped trim.
Here's the link at my Etsy shop for this pretty "brights" table mat. I have several different colors to choose from.

Nice Fall colors.
NOTE: If you don't find the Fall table mat (above) or other colored mats in my shop, please email me. I may have put them on "expired" status and I can reactivate them if you wish to purchase any.

Subway Art Valentine's Day with precious words. This is an "instant digital download" from my shop!  You download this to your own computer, and print it out to any size you want.

I've also included a set of 9 (digital download) tags to use as gift tags, or little messages to tuck inside gifts.

Or you can print it out and make a card! Or print an 8x10 and frame it as a pretty gift for that special someone in your life.
Here is the link to my Etsy Shop for this particular Subway Art. I have several others for boy and girl birthdays and St. Patrick's Day, plus some with quilting themes.

Here are some other gift ideas from my shop.

Round fabric basket liner all decked out with hearts and lace.

"Timeless" mini pocket album with tags inside. My shop has more photos of this sweet little album. Here is the link to my Etsy shop.
Teacup and teapot themed gift bags... to give as a gift or to put your gift in! The peach bag and lavender bag come with two pretty gift tags that match the fabric trim.

Retro kitty gift bag I made with vintage fabric (does not include a tag).

A set of eight (8) sewing themed A2 sized cards with envelopes. Great gift for the seamstress/quilter in your life.

I also carry vintage fabrics and MANY paper rosettes/pinwheels of varying colors.  I also have 16 different digital printables of various quotes and some with photo backgrounds. These are also "instant downloads". (Great instant and inexpensive gifts - just print out and frame).

All items in my shop are handmade by me.. with lots of love thrown in (except for the vintage fabrics of course).

If you want to view my entire shop inventory, please visit this LINK to my Etsy Shop, MyPinkPaperCottage. You might just find something there that piques your interest!

Enjoy!

I have been busy making some Valentine's Day gifts for my ETSY SHOP. I think one of my most favorite things to make is canvas board art. Once I get started, I can't stop!

This is a 5x7 canvas board that I painted pink (I just LOVE pink - can you tell?) and adhered some scrapbook papers and a vintage image of a cherub on a dove that I printed on photo paper (from The Graphics Fairy - she has thousands of free graphic images), then decoupaged it all down. You get really messy and gooey when doing this, but after awhile, you just start feeling really creative, and you keep looking for more things to glue down!

I put ruffled fabric on the bottom, some lace, pearls, buttons, and ribbon. Across the top, I added a little tiny postcard banner (postcards were FREE downloads from  Sweetly Scrapped.)  I love Sweetly Scrapped! She always has free printables and they are most always vintage. The little postcards I used were larger, but I printed them out really tiny, and then cut the "V" out to make flags.

I crocheted the little pink heart!  I found the pattern on YouTube but right now, couldn't tell you where I got it. If you search for "crocheted hearts" you'll find a ton of YouTube videos.

Next, here's my really truly red Valentine's Day canvas board art. I wish you could see all the detail:

This 5x7 board I painted red with some gray streaks for a more vintage look, decoupaged on some papers, doilies (that I inked up with beige ink) and some red glitter paper. The vintage girl is printed onto fabric and the graphic also came from The Graphics Fairy website.  I printed out the little sayings (free from Sweetly Scrapped) on pink paper, and decoupaged those down, added some lace and fabric ruffle along the buttom, and voila!

Of course, I had to add some little gems and pearls and buttons!  It was hard to make myself stop. The teeny tiny bows are what are called "fork bows". You make them using a dinner fork! I found videos on YouTube on making fork bows. They are easy and for me, necessary, as I can't tie a bow (with my fingers) with ribbon, if my life depended on it!  I also crocheted the red heart. They are quick and easy, and very addictive. I have a big pile of little crocheted hearts and tiny doilies.

You can view more photos at my ETSY SHOP MyPinkPaperCottage.

I also managed to finish the canvas board I started before Christmas! (I was on a roll!)  It's in my shop too........on the last page with some other Christmas items.  I used the CTMH Frosted papers (which are now unfortunately retired).  I'm glad I got some extra packs.  Also used our red shimmer trim which I love so much.

The "Subway Art" tag I made myself and printed it out on our colonial white cardstock. I then cut the edges with some decorative edge scissors.  I may be selling some digital Subway Art in my Etsy shop (soon).

Just wanted to share my little works of art. Hope you are all having time for some crafting (amidst all of the snow!).

And don't forget, if you place an order with me through my CTMH Website, for Close to My Heart products, please be sure to "join" my February on-line blast" party going on now. For anyone who orders, I'll send you a FREE mini stamp of your choice.  For anyone who orders $50 and above, I'll send you 4 of my custom made cards!

NEW VIDEO TUTORIAL FOR FUN GIFTS.

This NEW video has just been posted from Close to My Heart - just in time to show you how to make some fun and unique Christmas gifts!   I wanted to share this with you as it's really neat!  (You have to go to my blog HERE to watch it.)

This video shows how to make a grouping of "Subway Art tiles" using canvas boards.  There is also a cute board done with a photo.

The following CTMH products are used:

6x6 canvas display board (but you could use any canvas board from your hobby store)
6x6 piece of B&T (design) paper
Create-A-Shade Pearl Paint
Any color of stamp reinker
Mod Podge
Cricut cutout letters (or you could use stencils to draw your own letters and cut them out - or use pre-cut vinyl letters)

I want to try one of these because I really like the look of "Subway Art" and that kind of old vintage-grunge look.

I would LOVE to see what you make!  Send me an email with a picture of YOUR project.

HALLOWEEN CANVAS BOARD AND PAPER SALE.

BOO AND TRICK OR TREAT DAY IS COMING and I found such a great deal on the Close to My Heart "While Supplies Last" sale!
I made a cute 6x6 canvas display board (from CTMH), painted it bright orange, covered it with some of the Spellbound paper and some little felt "Hooligans" from last year's while supplies last sale, added some of our black tulle, a ribbon, gems and a ruffle of our For Always textiles. I modpodged over all the papers too.

The SPELLBOUND paper pack (18 sheets of paper) is on sale for only $2.20!!  Yup, you heard it right! $2.20 for 18 sheets of gorgeous Fall and Halloween inspired papers. The photo in the above link does not do it justice.  Plus, the papers are more orange than the browns it shows on the website picture.  I took a few pictures of my papers. Here they are:

And these are BLACK, not browns!  Everything is a vivid orange and black, white and black, etc. No browns, even though my camera even makes these papers look brown.  You get:

12 – 12" × 12" Cardstock Sheets (3 Black, 4 Sunset, 4 Slate, 1 White Daisy)
6 – 12" × 12" B&T Duos® Papers (2 each of 3 double-sided designs)

Here are the cardstock colors:

I'm so excited to make some Halloween and Fall cards with this paper!  It is so beautiful "in person". It's well worth the price for just the cardstock! I never have enough black, and I love the slate!

Have fun! (don't we always??????)
