I've been doing a little gardening on our nice warm days. We even have had a 92 degree day here!
I received some grape cuttings from a friend in The Dalles, Oregon. These are from mature grapes that he was pruning. Some are white, and some purple. Oh I love the purple ones!
This one was a root ball, so I planted it about a month ago. It's leafing
out wonderfully! I stuck the piece of driftwood I happened to have, in the ground, so my son wouldn't weed eat it to shreds!
Here are the other 2, that were already leafing out in the jars of water. Glad I had those driftwood sticks! My neighbors collect driftwood from the beaches around here and have a pile all along the side of their house. They've told me I'm welcome to take any! He carves the larger pieces with his chainsaw and makes gorgeous bears, seals, turtles, rabbits, and whatever else the piece tells him it wants to be.
I planted them 4 feet apart. Will need to put some tall fenceposts in the ground as they grow taller.
The rest I gave to my sister in Washougal, WA, and another neighbor here in the park, who has room. I don't have room for many.
The last few days I haven't had much mojo, so have been making kraft colored and neutral colored envelopes for the Kraft cards I make.
I ran out and was going to buy some, and then said "self, you have TONS of neutral colored papers so why not make some?" So I did. Was fun rummaging through all my pads of papers!
Its full of the pretty papers and I added some pages for writing on. I may keep it or sell it. I have a bunch more strips to make something else too.
I love the colors, and lined the insides of the ones that had only white inside. Some scrapbook paper is double sided, and some only have a design on one side, and the other side is white.
And on another day, I made a "neverending card". It opens one way, then another, and another, and another! Is for my 6 year old great nephew. I hope he can figure it out!

Have a great week everyone! I think summer is just around the corner!

Marilyn you are always so creative with your paper pretties. Grapes growing for you is amazing news. That will be so enjoyable to have. Happy New Week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteKris thank you! I'm excited about the grapes for sure. May take a few years and hope I'll still be here! xoxoxo Marilyn
DeleteYour never ending card is so ingenious. I hope he can figure it out and realize how very special it is. I've said it before and I'll say it again, You are a wiz with paper crafting 🥰
ReplyDeleteI did not realize that you could take cuttings from grapes and start new plants. That is an amazing way to get your vines going and to find the varieties you want rather than only what the store is carrying. Big box stores like Home Depot usually only carry one or two varieties. You're so smart!!!
Connie... I've seen that card made over the years by various ladies on YouTube. I just copied it with the help of a tutorial! At least my memory served me well enough to remember it! :-) The grapes were given to me by a friend from The Dalles, Oregon. He prunes them every year, and I guess you CAN use the pruned off cuttings to re-root and make new ones! I didn't know that either, though know you can do that with raspberries. I DID buy 3 new raspberry plants from the garden center yesterday. Excited to get them planted and hope they don't get the blight like my ones did in Madras. I do so love fresh raspberries right off the vine. I think the only ones available were golden raspberries, so will see how they taste next year. I think I'll get berries from them by next year for sure. They grow so fast! I would have liked to get some red varieties too, but so far, haven't found any. I hope the grapes will survive the deer who wander through my yard! Hugs.. Marilyn
DeleteSo exciting that you have gotten some grapes to plant off of cuttings! I have a friend who has grapes, and they gave me some last year. I should ask them for some cuttings! Your never-ending-card is just SO fun! I absolutely love that, and it is perfect for a 6-yo boy! He will love it! You are so clever, and do such beautiful paper creations! Amazing that your neighbor can make such fun things with driftwood, but the leftovers make great stakes. Loved your post today! Many blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Marilyn! That card is fun to make. I made 2 as they are twins! I'm afraid they'll take them out of the envelope and just rip them apart! I'll prepare their mom ahead of time! I love watching the grapes grow. I had white grapes once years ago and made grape juice which was delicious! Fun times in the summer! Xxooxxoo Marilyn
