Quilts in the Sanctuary

Just a quick post today. This has nothing to do with Autumn or Fall or food! Sorry. I wanted to share with my blog friends a beautiful sight that I was fortunate enough to take in the other day.

I went to our local church "Quilts in the Sanctuary"... just out of curiosity. I do love quilts and I love making quilted things (only one full quilt made by me so far, but lots of little things).... and I needed a dose of some pretty quilts, to get me inspired.

I just wasn't prepared for this gorgeous sight as I walked inside the doors, into the chapel. Wow is all I can say. What a stunning effect! I didn't have my camera, only my little cheapy cell phone, but you get the idea.  I didn't really take pictures of each wonderful quilt (which I usually do), just one (down at the bottom of this post) that I think maybe I can make.

There was ALOT of history here... many many old old quilts, with the stories to go along with each one, some from the 1800's.

I DO love those strippy Christmas trees!

I love the one on the top left.. such pretty Fall colors  (oops.. I guess there IS some "fall" in this post).

Here's one that is so cute and cheerful.. maybe I could make this one???

I mean, I've been to MANY quilt shows, but for some reason, I just loved the look of these quilts hanging everywhere in the chapel. Something very spiritual about it. Don't you agree?

    2. Marilyn, I know I already commented on the beautiful quilts, but since you are a "no reply" blogger, I can't leave you a message, but wanted to tell you thanks for your kind visit. That floor is something I have to say. We put it in about 25 years ago because the one that I wanted had been discontinued so it was a fast pick. If I wasn't retired now and could really afford it I would have something different, to be honest with you. But it does match the old house and I have to say I have been very neglectful of it over the years, what with all the remodeling we have done and it has held up like a champ. Nothing shows on it and it just keeps on shining..Happy Weekend..Judy

  6. Always loved this idea! Thank you so much for sharing this lovely site. Making enough quilts to donate to our last remaining little church on Douglas Island in Alaska where I grew up and have forever docked my heart only makes me want to figure out a way to actually do this. Unfortunately all of my quilts are regularly given away to local causes in Salem. But I can dream and dreams can happen! Thanks, Marilyn!!

    1. Michele, I'm amazed at how many quilts you make.. and all that you give. What you do is far above and beyond displaying them in a church! Blessings to you! Marilyn

  9. Hi, Marilyn! I was visiting a handful of blogs today and thought I'd stop by and say hi. I always love your comments so. Wow, that IS a beautiful sight! I always loved to go look at all the quilt entries at the Texas State Fair. Even though I don't quilt, I can appreciate their beauty and the hard work that went into making them. They look amazing there in that church. How fun! Glad to see you're still blogging. Love, Pammy Sue ♥♥♥

    1. Hi back to you! Yes, still blogging but not as much for some reason. I can't believe how busy I get when I'm supposed to be retired! I've always loved looking at quilts.. I've made some small things and one double bed sized quilt and that is all. I have a king quilt "work in progress" that I wonder if I'll ever get done! The history of quilts and seeing the really old ones just fascinates me so much. Hugs.. Marilyn
