What do I do on a Gray Day?

Today is day 5 of gray, cloudy and rainy days here. This is unusual, because even though I live close to the Oregon coast, I'm 9 miles inland, so there are sun breaks on most days.

I've been bored the last few days! No motivation or desire to do much. All I want to do is eat!

So today, I decided enough is enough! I've only consumed a protein shake and a few spoonfuls of baked beans from last night's dinner!

So I picked up my camera did a photo shoot with my kitty. He's like a puppy dog, and will do about anything I ask.
Put a little makeup on (lipstick even!) and jewelry, and my new southwestern jacket I bought 2 months ago and have never worn, and took some selfies ( after I had cut my hair!) Yes boredom makes you cut your hair.
And decided to FINALLY get out my sewing machine and hem my king quilt to fit my double bed. Have been putting it off for months.

Had bought this picture last winter so I could use blue in my bedroom for a change.
........and guess what! After all the prep to hem it, I found out I didn't need to hem it! It fit perfectly! Long on the sides more like a bedspread, but that's ok with me.
I dusted off my nightstands, and added some yellow daffodils (fake of course) that I bought a few weeks ago.
I really like it. It's a nice change.

This all took about 3 hours.....and I didn't eat a thing!

They say, when you get bored, just clean something. I say just pick up your camera!
Happy Tuesday!

  2. Your top photo reminds me of the rusty old piece of farm equipment on my grandparent's farm in Brownsmead. I grew up in Brownsmead, leaving in 1975. I recently found your blog when I searched to see if the Grange building was still in Svensen. Your blog was a top link. I have been enjoying your past posts, especially those from my old stomping grounds in Central Oregon.

    1. Kris thank you for the comment and for visiting! Yup... I lived in Central Oregon from 2012 through 2023. Lived in LaPine, then Sunriver, then Madras. Beautiful areas, mostly because of all the mountain views! And I finally went for a drive down to the Brownsmead area a week or so ago. What a beautiful area! I saw the old country store and the old buildings from when it was a bustling town. The rusty farm equipment I pictured here, was on the Blackberry Bog Farm Nursery property, here by Svensen, and I bet it came from an old farm in Brownsmead, as the owners of this nursery also have property in Brownsmead, and are developing another nursery there! 2. My grandparents homesteaded in Brownsmead in the late 1800s. I have wonderful memories of riding horses and bikes to the Brownsmead store to buy penny candy...right now I can almost feel my feet on the wooden porch and hear the bell on the door...my memories are so vivid. The last three summers I've gone back to walk the byways of my youth...a kind of break from a world out of control. I've have no fear of the future since I put my trust in Jesus, 35 years ago...yet it's nice to take a break from the chaotic present. Now that I've found your blog I feel that I have a "foreign correspondent", who will keep me up to date on what's happening on the lower Columbia.

  3. I love this post . . . very fun. 😊
I always get king size spreads for my full size bed. They fix perfectly covering the sizes. Your bedroom looks lovely. I especially like the little white birdhouse on the wall.
Hope the sun comes shining through your cloudy sky very soon.

    1. Hi Connie. We ARE finally getting some sun! Hurray! Yes I do love that little birdhouse. For some reason, I thought a king quilt would just be too big for my bed. I had measured one before and it seemed too long on the sides so all along, I thought I'd have to cut all my king quilts down. I'm glad I checked again before I started cutting! It fits just fine and now I have other king quilts I can use, of all different designs and colors! Goes to show.... we need to try things out before we assume they won't work! Hope you are feeling OK and your back is better? Hugs.. Marilyn

  4. We've had a very gray May here as well, Marilyn! Today though, the sun did come out, and it was so beautiful. Love your king size quilt on your bed, and all the special touches! Great selfies too! It's sometimes very fun to just do something a bit different! Many blessings to you!

    1. Marilyn, glad you've been blessed with some sunshine too! It's a golden blessing! Your garden, I'm sure, is basking in it. Living where you do, I can imagine the sweet smells of the forest floors when the sunshine hits them! Have a good week. Hugs.....Marilyn

  5. Hi Marilyn. Sounds like you had the right idea. Your kitty is beautiful. Love the jacket and the hair cut. I finally cut mine. I didn't, had to go to the hairdresser. It was down past my shoulders, and I don't look good with long hair anymore so always had to pin it up. For some reason when my hair gets long it also gets thinner. Things are a-changing. Happy Summer..xxoJudy
