Some of my favorite things.

I'm sitting here this Saturday, Sept. 14th, going through my photos on my computer (doing a little bit of cleanup!). I found a folder of "My Favorite Things" that I've put together through the years.

So I took a trip down memory lane! I still have most of these items that I moved with me here to Astoria. Oh such nostalgia!

Quilted pillows - I made these back in the late 1970's! Unfortunately, I've only saved one, which is in my hope chest - the purple and cream "cathedral window" design below.

Radiant Star design - don't have this one anymore, but have made MANY other items with this design which I absolutely love!

Another "cathedral window" - all done by hand.

Small wall hanging I made around 2002 - still have this one. I used many very old fabrics in this one, some that wre my aunt's, who is now deceased.. so I really cherish this!

My "what not" shelf. My mom had one and that's what she called hers! I found this raw wood shelf back in the 80's, painted it white, and it now houses my miniatures and tiny things that I love.

"Wade" figurines that were my mom's. Still have!

And many others...... some I still have, others I've given to either one of my sisters or my son.

Red Wing pottery collection and the blue "collectors" Corvette given to me by my son on my 40th birthday. Also, there are some of my mom's antique dog collection that she started in the 1940's. The plate with the church on it, was a commemorative plate from the St. Luke's Church in Portland, Oregon, back in the 50's. We lived across the street from that church! Still have all!

Victorian Style cookie jar.... was my mom's and my kids always went to it first when we went to "grandma's house"... as she always had fresh baked cookies in it.

My china teacups and shelf - was my mom's and I have this in my bedroom now. All teacups were given to me through the years by either my grandmother or my mom's cousins (sisters who lived together and never married).

Self-explanatory!

My little white "wood stove" (electric) that I bought a few years ago.... love this for the cold winter nights.

Ceramic Christmas houses - I've been painting a large set of these  since the 1960's!!

Vintage porcelain dish with lid - was my mom's and still have it.

Vintage china plate - I have  many! They were all my mom's that she collected over the years.

Leather coin purse that was my dad's. I've given it to my son.

Hanging sewn decoration that a friend gave me back in the 1970's.

Love this darling wall hanging with twigs and the pink birds. I bought this at a shop in La Pine, Oregon when I lived there, back in 2012. Just love the pink birds! Still have it.

Vintage china and porcelain lamp that was my grandmother's. Unfortunately, I had given it to my siter when I moved, and it burned up in their house fire on June 29th of this year. Very sad.

Picture of my mom when she was in her mid-twenties. I love the old frame, which has been with this photo since it was probably put into the frame!

One of my mom's hankies. She collected many. I still have them.

Book written by a friend of mine, Marilyn Gossett. She is very crafty and published a series of these types of books in the 1990's. I have several. Love them all!

I
t's a gray, rainy day here, and I'm feeling nostalgic and that's why I was looking through my old photos.

Have a nice Saturday everyone!

Marilyn

Playing in my craftroom....

Well... not really in my "craft room" but in my "craft SPACE" which is along one wall in my kitchen!

Lots of color for my senses!

My little Prayer Keepers:

My sweet little Fall/Autumn booklets:

These bright and vivid Fall colors, just send tingles up and down my spine!

Fall is definitely in the air here in Astoria! We've had unseasonably warm days the last few days, with the hazy sun that speaks of Fall Days coming, but is cooler today and rain expected this week!

My son and I went on a drive up in the mountains, and there were vine maples and oaks starting the change of their colors. Oh it was so breathtaking!
Just the beginnings of color changes.

My sweet son, who graces me with his time, to take little excursions around this area that is so new to me!

My favorite Fall beauty - Vine Maple!

I have been making ALOT of new fun things, and not sure what I'm going to do with them all! We had a little "store" here at the mobile home park, in the community building, and a friend I've made (who makes beautiful jewelry) and I may get a table at the monthly Grange, in November, to show off some Christmas things.

I am also considering re-opening my Etsy shop.

No matter the things that NEED to be done, I still take time to go to my happy place and play with paper...

Until next time.......

Marilyn

What I've been doing..... Part 1

Hello Friends!
It's been awhile since I've posted. I'm sorry! Life has been hectic (as it is for everyone!).

I'm trying to keep up with summer...it's passing by too quickly and I just can't seem to get caught up with the days that fly by.

I'm trying to do a quick post today of a few things I've been doing.

Got a new firepit.. only have used it once, due to hot weather and a fire ban shortly after I bought it!

My son trying to make my old run-down fence look decent!

GARDENING MOSTLY:

Planting flowers along the front of my home.

I bought this from the local nursery... was so beautifiul and has grown so much.. but now with the waning days of summer, it needs some attention.

Got my two 3 ft by 6 ft garden beds put together and filled.. first with "filler" (driftwood, branches, leaves), and then purchased soil.

The area behind my shed got cleaned up by me and my son! Was a huge weedy mess, plus tons of blackberries growing through the fence.

One of my neighbors had dug up this old old rhododendron and she asked if I wanted it. I said yes! It sat in my wheelbarrow for 2 months! I finally tore off two clumps and got those planted. Only one has survived. My son planted the big clump that was left, just a few weeks ago. So far so good.

One of the smaller clumps.

Planted some strawberries in my raised bed... purchased some and got some from my next door neighbor. They are all everbearings.

My petunias in front of house... growing bigger!

Can't stand my ugly back fence, so bought some cedar to redo two sections. Please note the rhododendron still sitting in the wheelbarrow!

Here is photo of my ugly back fence before my son trimmed off the top boards that were all jagged and uneven. I still don't like it!

Planted FIVE artichoke plants! I've never planted artichokes before. Will see how they do.

Here is the newly planted rhododendron.. must have weighed 300 lbs. My son even had trouble getting it in the hole!

So far it's still alive.

View of my little clump of flowers (with pink chair) and the side of my neighbor's home, which is nice to look at.

Picked blueberries..... again from my neighbor. There is one little bush on the side of her house that is by my front steps, and that is now "my" bush!

Enough picked that I froze 10 baggies of 2 cup servings. Also made muffins and pancakes.

Planted Nasturtiums in my raised bed, next to my strawberries, and they have TAKEN OVER the entire bed! I just trimmed them away the other day (no pictures).

Leaves as big as salad plates! Never seen nasturtiums get so big!

Lovely yellow rose bush I bought from a nursery 20 milses away. It is so fragrant!

Nasturtiums taking over! They must like the salt in the soil (underneath is driftwood I used for filler).

Nasturtiums taking over my strawberries. They are buried underneaeth! I've since this photo, clared away alot of the Nasturtiams but left the flowering parts.

One of my artichokes.. doing very well. This was taken about 6 weeks since I planted.

I'll leave you with this picture of my gorgeous yellow rose! This was when it was healthy! I think right now it's getting some sort of powder fungus.... I need to figure out how to treat it.

Part 2 will be coming soon!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer, and sliding into Fall with grace...

Marilyn
